Crispinday, Just to reinforce your understanding of forcing cones .... there's no such thing as thinner or thicker, weaker or stronger forcing cones. The only thing different is the cone angle and depth. Forcing cones are cut in barrels before they are mounted in a frame. WebSep 7, 2009 · Both work well with jacketed bullets with round shaped noses. 8 degree cones are much better with lead bullets and 11 degree cones are even better with wad cutters or semi-wad cutters. Yes, the mouth diameter does increase when you chamfer with a wider angle but it's really not a big deal.

WebFeb 1, 2009 · Because I shoot a lot of lead I kinda favor the 11 degree set up. Trying to re-cut a factory forcing cone, especially if you want to change the angle, is a bad idea. Basically to many compound angles and you'll only make things worse IMHO. Polishing, while staying within the factory cone angle, is a different story.
